carcinogenic (adj) causing cancer.

A substance which can cause cancer is carcinogenic. Tobacco, in the opinion of most experts, is highly carcinogenic. That is, people chewing tobacco or smoking are highly exposed to the risk of cancer.

  • People continue to smoke in spite of the fact that tobacco is highly carcinogenic, and that a number of smokers have died of cancer.
  • Several foods which we are fond of are classed as carcinogenic substances. That is, those consuming them run the risk of suffering from cancer.
