carnivorous (adj) flesh-eating; predatory.
Carnivorous animals are animals that eat the flesh of other animals. A carnivore is an animal that feeds on the flesh of other animals. The tiger, the lion, the wolf, etc., are carnivorous animals, whereas the elephant, the giraffe, etc., are herbivorous animals, that is, grass-eating animals. Carnivorous animals feed on herbivorous animals. That is, flesh-eating animals like the lion, the tiger, etc., live on the flesh of the herbivores like the deer, the wild buffalo, etc..
- It is rather odd that carnivorous animals, like the lion and the tiger, prefer the flesh and blood of only herbivorous animals. Very rarely do we see a carnivorous animal eating the flesh of another carnivorous animal.
- Though meat is considered more nutritious than vegetarian food, the average herbivorous animal is much larger and taller than most carnivorous animals.
