cataract (noun) a large waterfall; a condition affecting the lens of the eye, obstructing clear vision.

A large or high waterfall such as the Niagara Falls or the Angel Falls is a cataract. Water from a mountain ledge falling down steeply with great force is a cataract. The sight of a cataract strikes one with awe. Cataract is a medical condition in which the lens of the human eye becomes gradually white and loses its clarity, because of which the person having the condition becomes gradually blind.

  • The Niagara Falls is a cataract that sends down unimaginably large torrents of water from a great height spread across the US-Canada border.
  • An unequal spread of cataract in different parts of the eye lens may not obstruct vision, so a person having such a condition may not be aware that they have cataract.
