catcall (noun) a vocal sound made to express derision or disapproval; boo.
When the audiences at a meeting or at a performance are angry at or are not satisfied with the performance, they shout or make noises of all kinds, some of them imitative of animals, to express their disapproval. Such shouts or noises are catcalls.
- When the speaker claimed all credit for himself for the success of his party in the election, there were catcalls from some of the audiences who did not share his opinion.
