caulk (verb) block or plug cracks, seams, etc., to prevent leaks.

When water leaks through cracks, holes, or seams, we caulk them, that is, we stop the leak by plugging them by cement or by any other sealant like putty. Plugging the leak of water through taps, showers, and through cracks in pipes, tiles, etc., is caulking.

  • Thanks to successful modern research, we now have good adhesives, which can effectively caulk leaking water pipes, and thus eliminate the need for their replacement with new ones.
  • A leaking plastic container can be caulked by smearing the leaked portion with molten tar, as it sticks to the container and prevents any leak.
