censorious (adj) critical; always tending to find fault.

A person is censorious, if they always find fault with others for something or the other, however silly or unimportant. They fault others for the wrong thing as well as for the right thing. Picking holes is their activity. Censorious people can be very annoying and intolerable.

  • The censorious attitude of the teachers' damage the creative spirit and the initiative of the students, as the students get the feeling that whatever they do might be wrong, so they had better not do anything.
  • Children who are always under the censorious eye of their parents avoid doing even the right things for fear their parents might find fault with them even for the right thing.
