censure (verb) blame; criticize.

To censure a person is to criticize or blame a person for doing wrong. A person is censured, when they are criticized severely, especially publicly, when it is found they have done something wrong. A person is censured for violating rules they are expected to follow, for irregularities in the discharge of their duties, etc..

  • A section of the press has censured the government as being populist and shortsighted for launching schemes which might get votes for the party in power, but which in the long run might harm the nation's interests.
  • During the Cold War period, all peace-loving people censured the superpowers of the world for their stubborn attitudes, which were slowing down the peace process.
