centaur (noun) (in Greek mythology) a creature that is half man and half horse.

In ancient Greek mythology, a creature which had the head, arms, and trunk of a man and the body and legs of a horse was called a centaur.

  • Ancient Greek stories about gods and goddesses are very interesting, especially to children, because they are full of strange creatures like the centaur, which was half man and half horse.
  • When they first saw the picture of the centaur the children were filled with wonder and, to some extent, believed that such creatures might exist.
