cerebral (adj) of the brain; of the intellect; related to mind rather than to feelings.
Anything connected with the brain is cerebral. A cerebral hemorrhage, for example, is the excessive bleeding inside the brain, following the bursting of a blood vessel. A cerebral disorder is a brain disease. Cerebral means, appealing more to the mind rather than to the heart. In general, subjects like mathematics and philosophy make us think and stimulate our mind, and are therefore cerebral. Poetry and art, on the other hand, appeal more to our feelings, and therefore are connected with the heart.
- Philosophy and psychology being cerebral require the exertion of mind to understand and appreciate them.
- The young minds of children are not capable of understanding high philosophical content, because philosophy being cerebral needs a lot of power to think.
