chaotic (adj) very disorderly (of a situation, a place).
A chaotic condition is a condition of total disorder. 'The house was in a chaotic condition after the party.' This means that the house was untidy, that nothing there was in its proper place, that things were thrown helter-skelter, that the furniture was not in order, etc.. A chaotic situation is a very confusing situation, none being able to say what exactly is happening, and what is going to happen next. The situation in Iraq is now chaotic, with no order at all.
