cognitive (adj) the mental process of knowing, understanding, and learning something.

'Cognitive' is applied to the process of a person's knowing, understanding, or learning something. When a person is quick to understand something and can learn easily their cognitive development is good. A normal child's cognitive development is active from the age of three years, that is, a child begins to know and understand things from the age of three. Human beings have a much higher cognitive ability than the other animals. That is, they understand and learn things much faster and much better than the other animals.

  • Mary and husband Nelson are worried that their little son's cognitive powers are not the level of the other children of the same age. He is slow to learn and understand things.
  • The teacher observed that though Ann's cognitive development was good, she was lazy and unwilling to learn.
