colossal (adj) huge (of size); very large (of quantity or amount); enormous (of degree).
A thing that is very huge is colossal. Colossal expenditure means spending a great lot of money. A colossal project is a project of a very large size. The Aswan Dam across the Nile is a dam of colossal proportions, which means that it is very large. The pyramids are of colossal proportions. That is, they are huge. A waste of large quantity of anything, say water, or of a large amount of money, is a colossal waste.
- New York is a city of colossal dimensions. Its population, its massive skyscrapers, its theatres, its music halls, etc., are all very large, giving one the impression that everything about it is very colossal.
