combustible (adj) able to burn quickly and easily; flammable.

If a substance catches fire easily and burns quickly it is combustible. In other words, it is flammable. All products of petroleum are combustible, that is, they can be ignited easily, burn easily, and may even explode.

  • With a lot of combustible material like stacks of hay and gas cylinders dumped in the cellar, an electric short circuit causing a spark led to a huge fire that destroyed the whole building.
  • Wherever combustible material is stored, fire fighting equipment has to be installed immediately, to prevent, or at least minimize, the damage resulting from the combustible material catching fire.
