communal (adj) held or shared by a group of people living together; involving different sections of the same community.
Property, etc., held together and shared by a community, that is, a group of people living in the same locality and having many things in common, is communal. There have so far been no disputes about the communal property; the community members have such good relationships. This means that the people of the group have such unity and understanding that there are no quarrels among them about common properties like open areas, the communal gym, etc.. Involving different sections of the people in the same community is communal. Communal harmony refers to the friendly relations among the different sections of the people of the same community at a place. Iraq is now troubled not only by the occupation forces of the US, but also by communal clashes between the Shia and the Sunni sects of the Muslims there.
