complaisant (adj) willing to please; obliging.

A complaisant person always tries to do what pleases others. They are obliging, and are willing to do what others want them to do. They accept what others do without protest, even if it needs protesting. In short, they are obedient.

  • Susan found her husband Timothy always willing to please his boss, and would do anything he wanted him to do. She hated this complaisant nature of his, and divorced him.
  • In spite of his being older than the others in the company, Jamison is too complaisant and readily obliges others, even if it means taking orders from his juniors.
