complicity (noun) partnership (in a crime).

A person who joins another person in wrongdoing is guilty of complicity. If it is proved that two or more persons together planned and executed a crime, each of them is punishable for complicity in the crime, that is, for their partnership in the crime.

  • That he was a partner in the crime is undoubted. The blood-stained knife and the clothes with the blood smears of the victim found in his home are enough proof of his complicity in the murder.
  • Some other person's complicity in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy had been suspected, but nobody would know for ever whether anyone other than Jack Ruby was involved in the assassination, because Jack Ruby was killed while being taken to court.
