concentric (adj) (of a number of circles) having the same center.

When a number of circles have the same center, they are concentric. In a system of concentric circles, the radius of each circle from that of the immediate outer circle differs by the same length. A target board for shooting practice has a number of concentric circles with a small circle shaded black around the center.

  • The vast doors of the cathedral had carvings of a number of systems of concentric circles.
  • Throw a pebble in still waters of a pond or a lake and you see ripples forming concentric circles.
