conciliatory (adj) reconciling; doing something to make people less angry or more friendly.
When you are conciliatory to someone, you do something that makes them less angry with you. You try to make peace with them. When you try to soothe the unpleasant feelings of others towards you, you are conciliatory. A conciliatory move or measure is an action you take to reduce someone's anger. Conciliatory words reduce others' hard feelings towards you, after you have had a quarrel with them.
- After the quarrel between the wife and the husband the night before, the wife, as a conciliatory move, offered to iron the husband's clothes and sew up his shirt buttons. That did have the effect of making her husband pleasant.
- After the Cold War period, the US and the USSR, in an attempt to be conciliatory towards each other, agreed to destroy certain missiles, and that certainly made them friendlier than before.
