condole (verb) express sympathy with a person in their loss, especially death.

You condole with a person when you express your sympathy or sorrow over their loss, especially the death of someone close to them. 'When Ramon's classmate lost his father, Ramon and his friends condoled with the classmate.' This means, they expressed their sympathy and sorrow for him.

  • When the accountant of the company died, his colleagues held a meeting and condoled with the members of his family by sending them a letter expressing their sorrow over his death and sympathy for the members of the family.
  • Condoling with the members of the dead man's family, his coworkers wore black badges to express their sorrow at his death.
