consistency (noun) being the same most of the time (in behavior, views, opinions, attitudes, etc.); the degree of thickness or firmness, and the smoothness of a liquid.

Consistency in behavior is to behave now as one has behaved earlier. When one has consistency of opinion, one's opinion remains the same, it does not usually change. One lacks consistency if now one likes a person and hates them the next minute for no proper reason. 'Henry has shown consistency in his opposition to the new project.' This means that Henry has always been opposed and is still opposed to the project. When a player plays uniformly well, his or her game, he or she has consistency. When one's actions and words differ, there is no consistency between them. The amount of thickness and smoothness of a liquid is its consistency. The churning of a liquid may give the liquid consistency.

  • Jones's consistency in her uniformly high scores right from her high school has earned her a number of awards and scholarships.
  • Senator Peter's consistency in his opposition to the grant of Visas liberally to foreign students is not surprising since right from the beginning he has been citing that as the reason for the rising unemployment in the country.
