constituent (noun) that which constitutes or forms something; a component; a voter in a constituency or an electoral district.

A constituent is a component, a part which helps form the whole. The skeleton is a constituent of the human or the animal body, that is, one of the things which make up the human body or an animal body is the skeleton. Hemoglobin is the constituent of blood. That is, blood contains hemoglobin as one of its essential parts. A voter in a constituency or an electoral area is a constituent. The constituents of an elected leader are those who have voted for them or supported them.

  • Calcium is the main constituent of human and animal bones and teeth. It forms more than fifty percent of them.
  • Senator Elizabeth Jennings's constituents are so loyal to her that they elected her for the second time in succession.
