contaminate (verb) make (water, food, etc.) impure; to influence people in a bad way.

Contaminated water is water which has become impure because substances which are dangerous and cause diseases are mixed with it. Food that contains things that make it harmful or cause disease is contaminated food. People's minds are contaminated, when influenced by a bad person, they think and act badly. That is another way of saying that their minds have been poisoned.

  • All the substances dumped in the junkyard got mixed with water in the broken pipe, so they have contaminated the water, which as a result has become unfit for drinking.
  • The pesticides and other preservatives added beyond the tolerance level have contaminated the soft drinks to dangerous extents, so the health department ordered an investigation.
  • The agents of the secret organization have contaminated the minds of the youth with anti-social ideas.
