When a group of people convene, they meet at a place; they come together at a place to discuss points of interest for all of them. The members of a party convene, when they meet at a place to discuss party affairs. The employees of an organization convene, when they have some problems to discuss and decide upon. When someone calls or arranges a meeting, they convene a meeting. The secretary of an organization or an association convenes a meeting of the members, if they arrange for the members to meet to discuss some issue. A meeting of the senate of a university is convened to decide on the new programs of study to be started by the university.
