cordial (adj) warm; hearty; sincere; friendly.

When you are cordial to others you are warm and friendly with them. A cordial relationship between two or more people is a friendly relationship with warm feelings, but slightly formal. A cordial welcome is a hearty and sincere welcome.

  • Though they have been classmates for long, they have not been very cordial to each other. Some prejudice seems to keep them apart, each being just formal with the other.
  • The cordial relations between Anne and Nancy, who had always liked each other, came to an end over their relations with their boyfriend Jimmy.
