corporeal (adj) bodily (physical); material.
Corporeal needs are physical needs of the human being, like food, clothing, sex, etc., natural to human beings. A person naturally tends to give the utmost importance to these corporeal needs, that is, the needs of the body. The corporeal well-being of people is taken care of by the doctor, whereas their spiritual needs are looked after by the priest.
- There is no use preaching virtue to a hungry person. It has no effect on them in that state. Only when their corporeal need, namely hunger, is satisfied, can they listen to spiritual discourses and preaching.
- 'Man does not live by bread alone.' How true this is! Once a person's corporeal needs are fulfilled, they have the urge to do something spiritual or intellectual, as has been proved by the tremendous scientific, technological, and spiritual progress achieved by the human being.
