corrosive (adj) eating away (by chemicals); wearing away (by chemical action).

Some acids are corrosive, that is, they eat away, wear away, or damage substances they are in contact with over a period. Gasoline is corrosive in that it eats away or destroys gradually the engine parts made of certain metals or alloys. To prevent it we use engine oil. When you say that the use of drugs and alcohol are corrosive, you mean that alcohol and drugs have a corrupting effect on the society.

  • Modern research has developed a number of corrosive-resistant alloys. These mixtures of metals and minerals are proof against corrosive substances, that is, corrosive substances cannot destroy them.
  • Governments, social reformers, and the medical profession are unable to counteract the corrosive influence of drugs and alcohol on youth of the society.
