credo (noun) a statement of belief; a theory; a set of beliefs, principles, etc..

A credo is a creed, a statement a person makes about their principles, beliefs, and convictions. If a person states that theirs is the credo of peace, they mean that they believe in peace being the best solutions to all problems. A credo of love and charity is the belief in and a real attempt to extend love and charity to others. 'Help the helpless and sacrifice for them, is his credo. This means his actions are intended to help the helpless and to sacrifice anything for their sake.

  • The credo of peace and nonviolence held by Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., was put to test on many occasions, and they came out successful every time. They adhered to it even when it caused them great suffering.
  • Father Damien's credo was serving God through serving lepers. Starting with ones and twos, he soon had a large colony of lepers, whom he served with all devotion. He did not mind his becoming a leper in the process.
