culmination (noun) the highest point; climax; a successful end.

When someone's efforts reach a culmination, their efforts over a long period bear fruits, and what they have wanted to achieve has been achieved. 'The weeklong festival had its culmination in the award of prizes to the artistes in the various plays, and in felicitating the artiste of the year.' This means that the festival celebrated for over a week reached its highest point and came to a successful end with the award of prizes. A campaign has its culmination in the campaigners securing their rights. That is, their campaign ended successfully with their getting what they wanted.

  • The defeat of the secessionist forces by the republican forces and the end of racism in the US marked the culmination of President Lincoln's campaign for racial equality.
  • Johnson being elected the CEO of the organization was the culmination of his career in the company which he had joined as a middle level executive not long before. Reaching the top in such a short period was an achievement.
