culpable (adj) deserving blame; responsible (for something wrong).

When a person is culpable, they are to blame for what has gone wrong. When you say both the drivers are culpable for the collision, you mean that both are to be blamed for the accident, both are at fault. The culpable negligence of the doctor is the doctor being responsible for what has gone wrong.

  • The critical condition of the child is the result of the culpable delay on the part of the parents in consulting a doctor in a timely manner. They must take all the blame for the worsening of the child's condition.
  • The judge declared that Sam was culpable to the extent that he had passed on the information to the accused about the person murdered. So Sam has earned a six-year jail term.
