cupidity (noun) a strong desire for wealth and possessions.
Cupidity is greed or avarice, the strong desire to possess no end of wealth. People having cupidity are never satisfied with what they have, though they may have a lot. The more wealth they have the more they desire to have. In the process they lose their peace of mind. Cupidity, which is their desire for money, makes them forget everything else. For them money is for money's sake.
- Remember 'King Midas and the Golden Touch?' His cupidity cost him his daughter, who because of his golden touch, turned into gold. He learnt that he couldn't eat gold, drink gold, and live with just everything gold, including his daughter.
- Cupidity makes people inhuman and callous. Once you set your eyes on endless wealth, nothing matters for you, including your feeling for your near and dear ones. They are important to you so long as they help you earn more.
