dappled (adj) spotted.

When something is spotted, it is dappled. It is covered with spots. To be marked with spots of color or of shade is to be dappled. When sunlight passing through leaves falls on a wall, the wall is dappled, as it is covered with spots of sunlight and shade. The cheetah is dappled, that is, it is marked with brown spots on its yellow coat. The dappled cow is the cow with spots of white and black, or of any other color on it.

  • The dappled brown suit with yellow and white spots on it made the clown look all the more funny and comical.
  • The dappled pattern with blue and violet colored spots on the yellow background gave the surface of the table a cheap look, and showed the lack of taste of the owner.
