daub (verb) smear.

When you daub something, you smear it with paint or with some pasty substance like mud or clay. If you apply paint on a surface unevenly you daub it. Daubing is a shoddy job. Children daub their faces with colors for fun. That is, they apply colors on their faces without any pattern. Spectators at matches daub their faces with all kinds of paints without caring how they do it. That is, they smear their faces with whatever substance they like.

  • It is very difficult to understand the significance of modern art. Any piece of modern painting appears as so much of daubing rather than a meaningful combination of colors.
  • The festival of the Indian tribe was attended by all the tribal chiefs who daubed their half-naked bodies with patches of different colors, which lacked any pattern.
