dauntless (adj) courageous; confident.

When a person is dauntless, they are courageous and daring. They make nothing of facing any challenge. Even the most dangerous task cannot daunt them, that is, frighten them from attempting it, because they are dauntless. They are free from fear, and are very confident. 'Dauntless, Samson (the Bible) faced the lion boldly and killed it.' This means he had the courage and confidence to fight the lion and kill it.

  • Dauntless Hercules, the demigod of Greek mythology, accomplished all the twelve labors set for him, each of them demanding superhuman effort, unshaken confidence, and rare courage.
  • Samson in a dauntless manner went into the thick woods in the darkness, all alone, equipped with only a torch, to trace the wreckage of the plane, and see if there were any survivors. It revealed him to be a man of courage and confidence.
