debacle (noun) a big defeat; a total failure.

A debacle is a thorough defeat, or a grand failure. The debacle of a political party in the elections is the complete defeat it suffers in the elections in which it wins few seats. The total failure of a plan is also a debacle. The Arabs have been suffering debacle after debacle in their plans to defeat Israel and teach it a lesson. That means the Arabs and the Palestinians have met only failures in their attempts to occupy Israel.

  • The coach trained the team so well that during the whole season the team has not had a single debacle. It has been on a winning streak.
  • This is the third electoral debacle for Alex as a congressional candidate. The voters do not appear too convinced either of his competence or of his honesty, and that is the most likely reason for his successive defeats.
