The rubble that a building is reduced to, when it is demolished or when an explosion blasts it, is debris. Debris is all the broken brick, metal, wood, pieces of walls, including all the material that is left after something is destroyed in an accident or an explosion. The broken pieces of a plane you find at the site of its wreckage are debris. It took many days to clear the debris of the World Trade Centre destroyed in the 9/11 incident. That is, such a large dump of broken metal, brick, etc., was there in the place that it took very long to clear the place of it.
- After the huge explosion, the building collapsed. A number of people were crushed under the debris and efforts are still on to recover their bodies.
- Under the debris of the wrecked plane were found the charred bodies of some passengers, burnt to death in the midair explosion of the plane.
