deciduous (adj) (of trees, bushes, etc.) shedding of leaves.

Deciduous trees or bushes lose their leaves in a certain season every year. They shed their leaves usually in autumn, as against the evergreen trees which never shed their leaves. The leaves of conifers stay green throughout the year. The oat is an example of a deciduous tree, as it is leafless during the autumn.

  • The tree, being deciduous, looked bare through the autumn, as it has shed all its leaves.
  • The conifer is an evergreen tree, and unlike the oak which is deciduous, does not lose its leaves, whatever the season.
