declivity (noun) a downward slope.

If a large stone atop a hill rolls down along the downward slope of a hill, it rolls down the declivity. 'In their climb down the mountain, the mountaineers were happy as the declivity was low.' This means, they could climb down the mountain very easily as the slope was at a low angle. Skaters love to skate down a declivity, if it is properly covered with snow.

  • The declivity of the mountain was too steep for the mountaineers to climb down without the help of ropes.
  • Looking down the snow covered declivity of the mountain dotted with coniferous trees, the tourist was treated to grand landscape.
