decry (verb) criticize strongly, especially openly.

An open criticism of a person or an action is decrying. When you decry the half-hearted measures of the management for the welfare of the workers, you criticize the management and their measures in public. You decry the fall in the moral standards of the society if you attack it openly. You decry the commercialism of the medical profession if you blame the medical profession for practicing medicine as business.

  • All the European countries and the USA decried Hitler's anti-Jewish measures, his thirst for world dominance, and his POW camps that were the centers of torture and mass killings.
  • Democracy and the fundamental rights it guarantees provide a proper platform to decry the bad policies of the government. Such privilege of decrying the policies of the Government is not available in communist countries.
