delusive (adj) deceptive; misleading.

A thing or a person is delusive, if they are not what they appear to be, if their nature is not what their appearance would convey. A person who deceives others into believing something false is delusive, and their words are delusive. They mislead others with a criminal intention.

  • Steerforth's delusive conduct and words made Emily feel sure that he loved her. Rather late did she realize that she made the mistake of preferring the delusive rogue to faithful Ham.
