demolition (noun) pull down or wreck a building; disprove an argument.

The demolition, usually of a building, is to break down a building completely or level it, so that, a new building may be built in its place or the place left vacant can be used for any other purpose. Destroying a building is also demolition. The demolition of an argument is proving it wrong. When the defense counsel proves the prosecution wrong, it is a demolition of the prosecution's argument.

  • The City Planning Department is considering the demolition of some buildings in the block to widen the road to facilitate the smooth flow of the increasing traffic in the area.
  • The demolition of the World Trade Centre in the 9/11 attack left a huge dump of debris which took many days to clear.
