demotic (adj) used by or of interest to the ordinary people.
Anything that is of interest to the ordinary or common people is demotic, as against that connected with or liked by a small section of upper class people. A democracy is demotic in the sense that it concerns and is liked by the large number of common people. A thing is demotic if it is liked by most ordinary people. A demotic tendency is a tendency of the most ordinary people.
- Democracy rightly reduces people of all classes to the same level. The traditionally wealthy may oppose it as demotic, as it is liked by the most ordinary people to whose level the wealthy dislike to come down.
- What is demotic may not always be of good standard. We have good number of movies having little artistic values, but still are box office hits.
