denouement (noun) the outcome or the end (of a plot, a story, a play, etc.).
The denouement of a story, a play, etc., is the end part of the story or the play in which the earlier sequences, draw to a neat close, or the earlier complications of the plot are resolved. The denouement is the concluding part providing a neat finish to the story or play. Everything is settled in this part, and the story or play comes to an end with the denouement.
- The plot skillfully woven by the playwright concludes with a very interesting and unexpected denouement, having, however, a happy ending.
- The denouement of the play is on the expected lines. With the punishment of the wicked and the reward of the good, poetic justice is brought about and the estranged lovers are reunited.
