deposition (noun) a sworn statement in connection with a case before the court.

The statement a person makes under oath in connection with a case in a court of law is their deposition. A deposition may be recorded out of court or in the presence of a judge, and used in court. 'Herman's deposition points to the involvement of Ricky in the crime.' This means that Herman's statement shows Ricky's involvement in the crime.

  • She made the deposition, clearly aware that it would link her husband with the murder. She claimed that she was making her deposition as she did not want to suppress truth.
