When you deprecate the behavior of a person, you disapprove of it; you express your opposition to it openly. You deprecate your friend's extravagance, if you strongly disapprove their careless spending. You deprecate government's measures causing inflation, if you disapprove of them. You do not like them and you say it openly.
- The teacher deprecated the tendency among the students to set their eyes more on getting good scores, than on understanding the subjects of study thoroughly.
