determinate (adj) having a fixed order of procedure; unchangeable.

A determinate procedure is fixed, preplanned, and may not be changed. A determinate route for a convoy or for a procession is one determined earlier and is to be followed strictly. A determinate action is planned and has to be carried out according to the plan strictly.

  • Conservative companies stick to their determinate strategies. They are unwilling to change them for fear of loss of profits.
  • Harriet's education and career were determinate. Her father made it clear to her not to change it, as he thought that it would make it easy for her to succeed him as the chief of his business empire.
