detonation (noun) explosion; causing explosion.

A violent explosion, usually of a bomb, is a detonation. Causing something to explode is also detonation. The detonation of three bombs at three crowded areas at the same time is the loud burst of the bombs causing a lot of damage. The detonation of a time bomb is let off by a timer device.

  • Daisy cutters are non-nuclear explosives, the detonation of which produces an impact equivalent to that of nuclear devices.
  • The technique of detonation of explosives used to pull down buildings is termed implosion. It differs from an explosion in that the impact of the detonation causes the debris to fall in.
