didactic (adj) (of writing or speech) teaching morals.

A didactic speech is a speech on morals, in the nature of preaching. A didactic story is a story written or told with the purpose of explaining morals to the readers or the listeners. Didactic literature aims at inculcating morals in the readers.

  • Didactic literature including fables and tales of morals are of interest to readers up to a certain age. Grown-up people hardly like to read or listen to morals, so didactic literature does not appeal to adult readers.
  • Didactic stories, poems, etc., though not of interest to people of all ages, have their own value in making the young at least aware of morals and human values.
