dilemma (noun) having to choose between two equally good or two equally bad alternatives.

You face a dilemma when you have to choose between a job with a very good pay but which requires you to work at all odd hours, and a job with normal work hours but with a modest pay. You cannot decide between the two and that puts you in a dilemma. A moral dilemma is a situation in which your morals are tested - for example, to remain uncorrupt and not rich, or to become corrupt and amass wealth.

  • When you wish to eat the cake and have it too, you face a dilemma. Your dilemma is whether to eat off the cake, or to have it.
  • Philip was in a dilemma for over a week - whether to take up the job already offered or to wait for the other one with a much better pay, which however he was not sure of getting, but hoped to get.
