A reduction in the value of something is diminution. The reduction may be in quality or in size. 'The diminution of the army made it necessary for fresh soldiers to be recruited.' This means that as the army has been reduced in size fresh recruitment has become necessary. The diminution in a player's ability is their not being able to play so well as before.

  • There is a diminution in demand for handcrafted goods mainly because of their high prices, and non-availability in sufficient quantity or number.
  • Their outdated techniques have made their goods less competitive and this has led to the diminution of their share in the market.
