disdain (verb) treat with utter disrespect.

When you disdain someone you do not think that they are worthy of any respect at all. You scorn them. You treat them with contempt. When you disdain a system, you have a low opinion of it. If you disdain politics you have only contempt for it.

  • Hitler disdained everything and everybody non-German. He strongly believed in the superiority of the German race and did not consider others even to be human beings.
  • The French aristocrats' disdain of the poor and the middle classes whom they treated as dust under their feet led to the French Revolution.
